510 Thread Batteries
A 510 thread battery is the rechargeable power source that a standard oil cartridge screws into — "510" is the universal thread size (roughly 5 mm across, 10 threads) that almost every prefilled cartridge uses. The battery heats the cartridge’s coil so it vaporizes; it does not come filled. Pick one by how it fires (a button or auto-draw), whether it lets you change the voltage, and whether it fits the width of your cartridge. Every 510 battery below is in stock and ships from the US.
How to choose a 510 battery
Four things decide whether a cartridge performs the way it should:
Button vs auto-draw
A button battery fires when you hold it, which also lets it preheat and change voltage. An auto-draw battery fires the moment you inhale — simpler, but usually one fixed voltage. Beginners tend to prefer auto-draw; anyone tuning thick oil wants a button.
Voltage control
Fixed-voltage batteries run one setting. Variable-voltage (VV) batteries step through roughly 2.4V–4.0V so you can run thin oil cool and thick oil hotter. Lower voltage means more flavor and a smaller draw; higher voltage means bigger, warmer clouds.
Cartridge fit
All 510 carts share the thread, but not the width. A standard tube battery fits most carts; wide or square carts need an adjustable-diameter housing like the Yocan UNI series. If you switch cartridge brands often, buy an adjustable battery.
Capacity (mAh) & charging
A 350–500mAh battery is pocket-sized and lasts a day of light use; 900–1100mAh goes longer between charges. Look for USB-C over micro-USB for faster, sturdier charging, and pass-through charging if you want to use it while plugged in.

How to use a 510 battery
Screw the cartridge in finger-tight — snug, not forced, since over-tightening can flood the center pin and cause a short. On a button battery, most models turn on with five quick clicks; two clicks usually triggers a short preheat that warms thick oil before the first pull. Start at the lowest voltage and step up until the draw tastes full without any burnt note. If the battery blinks instead of firing, it is almost always a loose cartridge, a dead charge or a voltage set too high for that cart — reseat the cartridge, charge it, and drop the voltage. Charge over USB and unplug once the light goes solid; leaving a small battery on the charger for days shortens its life.
Batteries by brand
Most of the batteries on this page come from a handful of brands we stock in depth:
For adjustable, do-everything batteries, Yocan makes the UNI series that fits almost any cartridge. Lookah builds the compact, character-shaped 510 batteries (Bear, Turtle, Guitar). Ooze covers slim twist batteries and novelties like the Movez speaker. CCELL, Vessel and Exxus round out auto-draw and premium options. Powering a disposable-style setup or a dab pen instead? Frequently asked questions
What is a 510 thread battery?
It is the rechargeable battery that a standard cartridge screws onto. "510" refers to the thread size — about 5mm wide with 10 threads — which became the universal standard, so almost any prefilled oil cartridge fits any 510 battery. The battery supplies power to heat the cartridge; it is sold empty.
Are all 510 cartridges compatible with all 510 batteries?
The threading is universal, so any 510 cartridge will screw onto any 510 battery. The catch is width and length: some cartridges are wider or taller than a standard tube battery can seat flush. An adjustable-diameter battery such as the Yocan UNI series solves this by letting you widen the housing to fit oversized or square carts.
What voltage should I use with an oil cartridge?
Start low, around 2.4V–3.0V, and step up only if the draw feels weak. Thin, light oil vaporizes well at low voltage and keeps more flavor; thicker oil needs a bit more heat to move. Too much voltage burns the coil and gives a harsh, scorched taste, so the lowest setting that produces a full draw is usually the right one.
What is the difference between an auto-draw and a button 510 battery?
An auto-draw (buttonless) battery fires automatically when you inhale — nothing to press, usually one fixed voltage. A button battery fires while you hold the button, which also enables preheating and variable voltage. Auto-draw is simpler for a beginner; a button gives you control over how hot the cartridge runs.
Why is my 510 battery blinking and not working?
Blinking almost always means one of three things: the cartridge is not making contact (unscrew it a quarter turn and reseat it), the battery is out of charge (charge it fully), or the voltage is set higher than that cartridge can handle (drop to the lowest setting). A rapid blink on connection can also signal a short from over-tightening the cartridge.
How do I charge a 510 battery?
Most 510 batteries charge over a USB or USB-C cable, either through a port on the battery or a magnetic threaded charger that the battery screws into. Charge until the indicator turns solid, then unplug — leaving a small lithium battery on the charger for long stretches wears it out faster. Never charge an obviously damaged or swollen battery.
How long does a 510 battery last?
Per charge, a 350–500mAh battery covers a day of light use and a 900–1100mAh battery goes noticeably longer. Over its lifetime, a quality 510 battery lasts many months to a couple of years; capacity fades gradually with charge cycles, and any battery that stops holding a charge, gets hot, or swells should be retired and recycled.
Do 510 batteries come with the oil?
No. A 510 battery is hardware only — it supplies the power and the threading, and you add your own compatible 510 cartridge. That separation is the whole point of the 510 standard: you can pair any cartridge with the battery that fits your style, and replace either one on its own.
