When you work at an online headshop, you get to try a lot of vaporizers. Like, a lot. We've put the most popular portable dry herb vapes through their paces over the last year, and here's what we actually think of each one — the good and the not-so-good.
Storz & Bickel Crafty+
The verdict: Worth every penny if you can afford it.
This is the vaporizer other vaporizers are measured against, and for good reason. The vapor quality is exceptional — smooth, flavorful, and consistent from the first draw to the last. The Bluetooth app lets you dial in precise temperatures, and the build quality screams "made in Germany."
The downside? Battery life. You'll get about 4-5 sessions per charge, which means you're topping it up daily if you're a regular user. And at this price point, that's a fair criticism. But the actual vaping experience is hard to beat.
Best for: Flavor-focused users who vape at home mostly.
Skip if: You need all-day battery or you're on a tight budget.
XVAPE Aria
The verdict: The best value under $100. Period.
This one genuinely surprised us. The Aria punches way above its price with convection heating, precise temp control, and a ceramic chamber that produces surprisingly clean vapor. It heats up in about 30 seconds and the battery lasts 8-10 sessions.
The build feels solid but not premium. The mouthpiece gets warm on longer sessions. Minor complaints for a vape that costs less than a nice dinner.
Best for: Beginners, budget-conscious users, anyone who's vape-curious.
Skip if: You want luxury build quality and have the budget for it.
Puffco Proxy
The verdict: The most fun vaporizer we've used.
The Proxy is technically a concentrate vaporizer, not dry herb, but we're including it because it's the one our team fights over. The modular design means you can swap the heating element between different glass attachments, silicone pipes, even water pieces. The 3D chamber heats evenly and the flavor is phenomenal.
It's not the most practical device for daily use — the glass pieces are fragile and you need to clean it regularly. But for sessions where you want to appreciate your concentrates, nothing else at this price is close.
Best for: Concentrate users who value flavor and customization.
Skip if: You want dry herb only or need something rugged.
Arizer Solo 2
The verdict: The workhorse nobody talks about.
The Solo 2 doesn't have the brand cachet of Puffco or Storz & Bickel, but it quietly delivers one of the best portable vape experiences available. The all-glass vapor path means incredibly clean flavor, the battery lasts forever (10+ sessions), and the temperature control is precise.
It's a bit tall and the glass stems can break if you're not careful, but for home use this thing is a tank. We've had ours for over two years and it performs exactly like day one.
Best for: Daily home users who want reliable, clean vapor.
Skip if: You need true pocket portability.
Lookah Bear
The verdict: Great for wax on the go.
A compact concentrate pen that heats fast, hits hard, and fits in your pocket. Nothing revolutionary, but everything about it works well. The bear design is fun (or tacky, depending on your taste), and the quartz coil produces good flavor for a pen-style device.
Best for: Concentrate users who want maximum portability.
Skip if: You're looking for dry herb capability or big clouds.
Our Bottom Line
If money's no object: Crafty+. Best overall vapor quality, full stop.
Best bang for your buck: XVAPE Aria. Shocked us with how good it is for the price.
Most versatile: Puffco Proxy. That modular system is genuinely innovative.
